Constructions With Circles [Week #31]
Dear reader,
This week we have a problem that requires a clever construction from the problem solver! In order to help you in solving this problem I will provide some insight into constructions involving circles because they were (to me especially) incomprehensible when I first saw them.
When a problem involves circles it’s always helpful to do the following and experiment with various constructions
Draw a line from the center of the circle to any points of tangency or to another circle’s center
Create a right-angled triangle that involves known values such as the radius of another circle and then apply the Pythagorean theorem.
Draw perpendiculars to any point (less common).
Keeping this in mind try and experiment with a few constructions and apply them to the figure. Good luck!
